The story is set in Tokyo in the near future, where "Reavers," walking machines based on robot technology, are active, and depicts the activities of the newly established Reaver Unit of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. It was a pioneering work that developed a media mix that was rare at the time, starting with an OVA and continuing with manga series, novels, movies and games.
